South Korea does what the US refuses to do Restrict junk food advertising to children

as8

The health ministry of South Korea has announced that advertisements for foods that are high in fat, sugar, and salt, will be limited during the prime time television hours of 5 and 7 p.m. and during any children’s programming. In support of national efforts to curb childhood obesity, the limitations will include foods such as hamburgers, instant noodles, and pizza as well as desserts like chocolate, candy, and ice cream.

Many South Korean child advocacy groups have been calling for limitations on junk food advertising for years, citing the statistic that 20 percent of children in the country are overweight. Last year, the health ministry banned junk food sales at schools and their surrounding neighborhoods.

A stricter version of the advertising ban was proposed back in 2008 that would have stopped junk food advertising for four hours instead of two but television broadcasters and their advertisers strongly opposed the strict regulations. The South Korean government eventually arrived at a compromised version which is said to take effect within the next several weeks.

Following its implementation, government officials plan to evaluate the success of the program to see if an observable reduction in obesity takes

Researchers urging ban on point of sale tobacco advertising

as7

Stanford University Medical School researchers recently conducted a survey in which they found that point-of-sale tobacco advertising greatly influences teenagers’ desire and willingness to smoke. According to the survey, teenagers who frequent establishments where this type of advertising exists are more than twice as likely to try smoking than those who do not visit them.

More than 2,000 teenagers between the ages of 11 and 14 years old participated in the survey, which recently appeared in the journal Pediatrics. Experts believe the study is a major eye-opener into the effects of direct tobacco advertising on young people.

“The tobacco industry argues the purpose of advertising is to encourage smokers to switch brands, but this shows that advertising encourages teenagers to pick up a deadly habit,” explained Lisa Henriksen, a senior research scientist at the Stanford Prevention Research Center, and author of the study.

Henriksen also laments the number of cigarette ads present on objects in and around convenience stores located near schools. Trash cans, clocks, floor mats, cardboard displays, and other forms of advertising are all used in stores where many young people shop, and Henriksen

Beware of advertising gimmicks and watch out for the daily multi poison Opinion

as6

Imagine: you`re watching your daytime dramas and you see an advertisement showing a silver-haired couple walking along the beach holding hands, apparently linking their longevity to a once-daily multivitamin with mineral supplements. Or it`s Saturday morning and the kids take note of a cartoon figure advertising a gummi candy-like vitamin in tangy fruit flavors. Live longer and healthier? Nutrition the kids will like? Not so fast. What`s actually in those treats? What chemicals lurk inside that pill? Where does it all come from; how will your body react to it; and more importantly, do you actually need it? These are questions you should be asking before falling for the advertising gimmicks.

The ingredient list of one popular over-the-counter multivitamin/multimineral supplement reveals a dictionary of lengthy Latin phrases, many that should never be in anything you would willingly consume. Let`s examine some of these, shall we?

Dicalcium phosphate, or DCP, is an inorganic phosphate compound and the primary ingredient of this particular multivitamin. DCP is also found as a common mineral supplement in many breakfast cereals and enriched flours, thereby adding to the potential for calcium

Renting Event WiFi

When it comes to getting WiFi at events, bandwidth can easily be overshadowed by the delivery technology that you decide on. This is a mistake, largely because no delivery technology can live up to its potential unless it also has access to adequate bandwidth to let it work properly.

Venue technology can be both out-of-date and easily overwhelmed by the sheer number of people who are using it as the default network solution. A better option will be to go with internet rental through Trade Show Internet. They have both delivery and bandwidth solutions, and they will be able to scale your capacity to your delivery system.

For single users, they have the tiny, cellular networks, and for planners, they offer full-scale fiber-optic networks for thousands of users. This means that they are able to offer both premier WiFi solutions and the bandwidth to back it up.

The future of digital advertising on China you should know

Group M released a report that proves how rapid Chinese advertisers invest their budget into cyberspace. Five years ago, the Internet only played a small part of total advertising expenditure, i.e. 14.8% of total advertising spending in China, but at the beginning of this year there were many predictions that the Internet can take about 50%. China has surpassed the total average internet advertising in the world and the number of Chinese advertisers gives a sign that the use of a variety of mobile devices cannot be separated from the world of e-commerce, particularly Alibaba as the largest e-commerce company in China. Social media apps like WeChat also play an important role in digital communications in China and thus also affect some percentage of digital sales success.
The report also said that the economic slowdown does not undermine consumer confidence in China, even in 2015; digital advertising spending in China had achieved an increase of 7.8% and would probably rise to 9.3% by the end of 2016. However, the economic slowdown provides an impact that cannot be ignored that today’s growth rate is lower than several years ago.
Meanwhile, the budget for traditional advertising is in decline, as the budget

Of course, if the advertising medium is popular among people, it is likely that the advertisement would be more effective compared to its being posted in a less popular medium. Although the effectiveness of advertising also depends on the quality of the advertisement, the fact remains that the highest-quality advertisement would be useless if no one sees it. Fraudulent views of videos impact advertising industry and society widely

Researchers from IMDEA Networks, UC3M, NEC Labs Europe and Politecnico of Torino have reached striking results in their recently published paper Understanding the detection of fake view fraud in Video Content Portals. For the first time, it has been demonstrated that video portals are very vulnerable to fraud by fake views from robots (bots).

IMDEA Networks’ researchers have recently presented their research results on one of the hottest topics in today’s Internet: the business behind advertising. This business is fueling today’s Internet, as it is the main economical driver behind the network.

In the recently published paper “Understanding the detection of fake view fraud in Video Content Portals,” the research team formed by IMDEA Networks, University Carlos III of Madrid, NEC Labs and Politecnico of Torino have shown that online video portals are charging marketers for advertisements placed on YouTube even when the actual viewer of the ad is in reality a robot rather than a human being.

To perform the experiment of testing the performance of fake view detection systems, the researchers applied measurement tools developed specifically for this specific purpose to the five major online video portals. The research results revealed that YouTube’s detection system significantly outperforms all

Online advertising can deliver targeted cancer prevention messages

Online advertising based on Google search terms is a potentially effective way to deliver targeted cancer prevention education, according to a study led by Eleni Linos, MD, DrPH, an assistant professor of dermatology at UC San Francisco.

Indoor tanning is a preventable risk factor for skin cancer that accounts for almost half a million new malignancies per year, said Linos. “More than one in five adolescents and more than half of all college students use tanning beds, which makes them especially vulnerable,” she said.

Linos and her research team created a series of brief advertisements about indoor tanning and skin cancer that appeared when Google users searched for information about tanning beds. The most successful ad was viewed by almost 200,000 users, about 1 percent of whom clicked on it for more information. A one percent “click-through” rate is considered commercially viable for online advertising, noted the study authors.

“Google handles three and half billion searches a day,” said Linos. “This is an incredible opportunity for targeted, cost-effective public health messages. Even beyond skin cancer, our approach could be used for other major public health issues such as tobacco control or mental health problems.”

The study was published in JAMA Dermatology

How robot auctions are shaking up digital advertising

How long does it take to load a webpage? Half a second or less, depending on the speed of your internet connection?

Well, in that fraction of a second, something extraordinary is happening behind the scenes.

A hyper-fast auction is taking place, involving tens of thousands of media buyers bidding for the right to launch advertising on that page – ads targeted at you.

All this happens automatically in just a few milliseconds.

It’s called programmatic advertising – a catch-all term for the automation of many aspects of digital advertising – and it’s making advertisers think twice about how they spend their money.

“We get an opportunity to bid on your eyeballs,” explains Martin Kelly, chief executive of Infectious Media, a programmatic advertising specialist.

“We’ll know what type of computer you’re using, where you are roughly, the bit of the website you’re looking at, but we won’t have any personally identifiable information.

Everything is data-driven marketing now

Yes There Is a War on Advertising. Now What

Apple has been scaring up apocalyptic predictions for the future of advertising ever since it said its forthcoming mobile operating system would make it easier for apps to block ads in Safari browsers on the iPhone. Encouraged by the company, the scenario goes, consumers will shut marketers out to surf a perceived faster, cleaner, less-invasive web — until the free internet collapses for lack of ad revenue.

But the truth is the horsemen were in the saddle well before the new operating system, which arrives on Wednesday. Consider:

  • IPhone owners could already easily erase marketers’ messages from mobile web pages and apps. As an experiment, Ad Age reporters did it with marquee publishers such as The New York Times using the app AdBlock Mobile.
  • The number of people actively blocking ads in the U.S. rose to 45 million in the second quarter, up 48% from the period a year earlier, according to one widely cited report.
  • Eyeo, maker of the popular Adblock Plus desktop blocker, is offering new blocker-ized browsers for Apple and Android devices. “As annoying and irritating ads have spread fast to mobile devices, we are still championing the user, offering the ability to block ads and thereby giving them faster browser

The 4 Digital Advertising Trends That Are Reshaping Advertising

People know a great ad when they see one, but getting that ad to right people at the right time is an art unto itself. As innovation in advertising technology renders old tactics obsolete, it also opens new opportunities to reach your audience.

The central questions in digital advertising today are: Where will people listen? What content will they engage with? How do I reach them? The answers are key to understanding four trends that are shaping the industry.

1. Mobile video advertising.

Mobile video consumption is growing rapidly and providing advertisers with a way to reach consumers when they are paying attention. Between Q3 2012 and Q3 2014, smartphone and tablet video consumption grew 400 percent and now accounts for 30 percent of all online videos played, according to Ooyala’s Global Video Index. This trend has been helped along by the expansion of fast 4G/LTE coverage. The bigger iPhone 6 screen and the popularity of other ‘phablets’ (large-screen smartphones) also reflect the growing importance of mobile video. As phablets saturate the market, they will in turn feed the growth of mobile video.

Mobile video viewers are what you might call a “captive” audience. When TV commercials begin, people look down at their phones. On the

Should You Advertise

This article was excerpted from MadScam. Buy it today from EntrepreneurPress.com.

Sit down. Pour yourself a stiff drink. Then, on one side of one sheet of paper write down all the reasons why you think you should be advertising. After you’ve done that, refill your glass, turn over that same sheet of paper, and write down all the reasons why you shouldn’t be advertising. Only if the reasons on the first side of the sheet outweigh those on the reverse should you consider committing a portion of your hard-earned revenues to an ongoing ad program.

Let’s consider what some of those reasons might be. The pros could be:

  • You’re in a startup mode; you need to let people know you exist.
  • You’ve been around a while, and people still don’t know you from a hole in
    the wall.
  • Your competition advertises.
  • Your competition is killing you.
  • You have a deep-seated desire to kill your competition.
  • You think you have a unique product/service.
  • You are convinced you have a unique product/service.
  • You want to be the next GE/IBM/Nike/P&G.
  • Everyone else seems to advertise.
  • Your wife/husband/partner/dog thinks it’s a good idea.

The cons could be:

  • You have no idea where to begin.
  • You don’t think you have enough money to do it properly.
  • You know your
